CF8 Upgrade - Web Connector Problems

I've just attempted to upgrade from CF 7 to CF 8. I've encountered the following problem regardless of the type of CF 8 install I do. I'm installing on a Windows 2003 server that has been successfully running CF 7 since it first came out.

After the install/upgrade I receive what appears to be an IIS dialog box requesting a username and password when accessing any page on the web server ( cfm or regular html pages). I'm not able to access the CF administrator pages. If I run the web server connector tool and remove the connection to my IIS server all html pages display properly and of course you can't access CF pages. If I add the connector back using the tool I still can't access CF pages and can no longer access html pages. I have even gone to the extent of editing my system registry to remove all references to adobe/macromedia and uninstalling and reinstalling IIS.

I've tried the upgrade path as well as uninstalling CF 7 and doing a fresh CF 8 ( both standalone and multiserver) install with the same results. I have successfully reinstalled CF 7 and deployed my car file to get my settings back. I have been successful with the CF 8 upgrade on both my test and development servers with no problem. I'm now totally at a loss as to any other possible solutions.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I've finally was able to get a successful install. I don't believe that it was a rights issue but more about the relationship between IIS and the CF connector. I ended up abandoning the existing site and reestablishing it on a new drive and new IIS site. You can view all the messy details on my blog.

I'm still not sure why the upgrade didn't work and why my solution did but at this point I'll just accept the fact that after 2 days of being down I have a working site.

Check your NTFS privs. Also, make sure your CFIDE virtual directory got recreated and that it is available to anonymous users.
