Question

CF8, Win 2008 R2? - Can find an answer

Hello Wise Ones,

Our networking team is migrating everything to virtual boxes with windows 2008 R2 64bit. We have stopped our CF installs at CF8. Our director wants to go all .NET. But, us CF devs are sticking to our guns.

None the less, we have to migrate servers.

I have been Googling and searching the Adboe forums. But, I cannot find an answer:

** Will the final update to ColdFusion 8 run in a Windows 2008 R2 64bit environment? **

If not, this could be the end of my CF dev days (at this job)....

Thank you for any wisdoms...

Ian

If you are using ColdFusion 8.01 Enterprise 64-Bit everything should work just fine.

If you are trying to use ColdFusion 8.01 Standard (which is 32-bit only) or CF 8.01 Enterprise 32-bit (Why would you?) and you are trying to use IIS, then you need to put IIS into a 32-bit mode.

If you are using CF8 Standard and Apache 32-bit, then all should work fine.

    Thanks for the reply.

Our concern is the "R2" part of Win2008.

That seems to be where the CF8 support drops off.

Do you know any info on the R2 issue?

I'd be very surprised if there were any problems specific to R2 - there's nothing really different between Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2008 in the places that matter to ColdFusion.

I don't know, but I sure want to know!  I've been presuming that there would not be a problem in such a configuration, and since we have

a new server running R2 that we're in the process of setting up I'm hoping that that is the case.  We've not had any problems with our CF8.01 box talking to SQL 2008.  If you find any gotchas, I'm pretty sure that there a bunch of us anxious to here about them.

    thanks,
