Coldfusion 5 and XML: is it possible?

Hello again.

I shy away from forums generally, but because of the speedy response, I have come back again with another problem. Thanks BKBK!
My XML reader was fine, working, singing and dancing. But when I shifted the script onto the live server where I received
an error message saying that "xmlParse" (the glorious function I had been using to handle my XML up to this point) was unidentified. I realised that the live server was using CF 5. I built the script in CF 6. xmlParse isnt in CF 5 apparently.
Our crappy hosting company wont install CF 6 or 7. Not yet at least.

Now Ive looked in the CF 5 book here in the office for some tips. The sorry equivalant is CFWDDX. I couldnt parse a simple <root><node></node></root>. Maybe Im doing it wrong. From what Ive read and seen, WDDX is its own format, which doesnt seem to do 'casual xml'. The file I would like to parse is 37 MB's filled with &amps and such and I dont think CFWDDX is going to cut it. If anyone knows of a custom tag or workaround or any general tips that could help me out. I will continue to browse empty search results upon empty search results looking of a solution.

Its an odd problem and unnecessary, a work around would be to upgrade to cf6 or higher but the hosting company are not willing.

Thanks again.

yes, I used cfx_xmlTools (a jar file) back in the day of CF 5. I still
have a copy and can make it available if you want it.

    Thanks for the responses!
I was hoping my post wouldnt end up dead wood floating in the forum somewhere.
This xml thing has become a bit of a nightmare.

Ive resorted to using Delphi to strip the XML
straight into the database and basically, cut Coldfusion out of the loop
    temporarily.

Its worked but my boss wants to keep things Coldfusion
    or web script oriented.

I found the cfx_xmlTools jar file on the net Mountain Lover.
I will get this file up to the hosting company ASAP.

I saw the CFX_parser on the net. Thanks MaryJo.
If this fails I will give that a try.

    Thanks again people.

Personally I would find myself a better host. ;-) But yes, there are ways to parse XML on a CF5 server. If you are on Windows you can use MSXML parser through CFOBJECT (assuming your host allows it). I think there's an example of this at cflib.org. Commercially, there is CFX_XMLParser available from ActivSoftware.
