Coldfusion 8 pdf reporting problem

First appologies if I have posted these questions in wrong forum but not a pro and need to start somewhere to get clarification on some nagging issues.

What would make a pdf report print erratically coming from a Coldfusion 8 web based application?  having a coldfusion8 webbased sql  driven database system built and think getting run around by developer.  Reports show on screen and have a button to print them out to a .pdf file but when the report prints there is absolutely no control on font size and will often print the report on an 81//2 x 11 piece of paper using only 1//4 of the page and utilizing a font of about 2 pts.

Developer says they use adobe coldfusion 8, adobe (unspecified version), excel 2003 and sql for our project.  Oh and java scripting.

Using a ton of bandwidth to run this project as well which finding quite annoying.

Suggestions and assistance from y'all appreciated.

Really would appreciate some input on this folks!

Does anyone have an opinion or idea on the following:

Is there a way to vary and change .pdf report size/font when being printed from an application using ColdFusion 8?

    or

What are the limitations of providing a .pdf file thru ColdFusion 8?

    or

Would you have any suggestions as to what has to be done through Coldfusion 8 to allow the end user the ability to chose how the printout will look and what it would contain?

If any of this is not related to ColdFusion but rather on initial programming or programs feeding to ColdFusion it would be nice to hear your view.
