thanks to Nick Watson, i got the server runnng on Mac OS X 10,4.7, using 1.4.2 jvm though. so no more 500 null webpages after logging in to the server.

this is a different problem, i think. i downloaded dreamweaver 8 and installed it. the ColdFusion server was running during installation of dreamweaver 8. in setting up a site, i come to the screen that ask if i would like to use a server technology; i check yes, to use a server technology and i choose coldfusion. according to the literature, i should see a message saying "Dreamweaver has detected ColdFusion on this Computer", i do not. what do i need to do so that the server is used by dreamweaver? the system is mac os x 10.4.7, dual 2 ghz, 2 gig, box. the jvm is 1.4.2.

thanks everyone,

g.

George, you probably wont get this message you describe, but just proceed
ahead, and enter the site details in your site definition. Select CF as the
server from the drop down menu, then make sure you add the port it is
running on, in the url - like so:
http://localhost:8300/sites/mytestsite/index.cfm
