Coldfusion Host Advice

I'm looking for a new coldfusion host. to host a few sites. My current host has become very unreliable lately. It would be nice if I could go a week without them breaking my application. I'd like a host that either specializes in coldfusion hosting or at least has qualified administrators that know what they are doing - as we all know that its an art.

I use about 6 gigs of monthly bw and 600 mbs of space.

It isn't mandatory, but it would be nice if the servers are located outside the USA since one of my sites is a bingo related portal.

I just want a stable relatively quick server with the following features
coldfusion obviously
php is a bonus - but not 100% neccesary - I'm thinking of converting my forum to CF
tags : cffile, cferror, cfhttp, cfmail
solid mysql
subdomains
multiple domains should support at least 10
client variables should be database driven - not registry

I'm currently hosting it on a $10 /month host - which was reasonably reliable for years but has recently become horrible. My site has over 4000 members and gets a fair amount of traffic so I can't afford too much downtime.

I'm not adverse to paying up to $100 / month if the quality, speed and flexability are reflected in the price - but I'm also not adverse to putting it on another $10 / month account if it does the job and is reliable. A dollar saved is a dollar earned.

Here is my current short list :
http://www.blacksun.ca Canadian based - talks a good game but i found some questionable reviews - centOS operating system
http://www.layeredtech.com/servers.shtml (though I'm not to excited about adding server administration to my workload and this will probably cost me $150 / month or more - anyone want to share one?)
http://www.crystaltech.com - tonnes of reccomendations and has some useful graphic components pre-installed
http://www.viux.com - some good recommendations - great features
http://www.fusionlink.com/ - sounds good but doesnt give alot of details about the hosting

Here are some on my extended list
http://www.yetihost.com/ UK Based
www.hostmysite.com
xhostsolutions.com
http://www.cartikahosting.com/ canadian

Here are some I wont consider
interland
hostdepartment
godaddy

Would love to hear any feedback - thanks.

    freebingo,

Two domains, one datasource/database. They wouldn't let me do it either way.

you can check out hostnexus.com, too. i have been with them for a long time now, and they are really good. especially their support - instant and always on-the-spot. they have various hosting options for CF hosting. as far as i know, they have servers in the US and Australia.
not sure about their client variables, but all the other requirements you mentioned are definitely met.

    Hi Heavy_Doody,

I'm a little confused, are you refering to sharing application space - as in the datasource you specify for your client variables in application.cfm?

Do you wind up with a different control panel for each subdomain?

I also have subdomains that use the same dsn's but I could create two different dsns as long as they point at the same data - I wouldnt care.

    Thanks

CrystalTech has always been good for my stuff. The only exception was when we had a special request...

    We had 2 accounts: www.MyDomain.com and whatever.MyDomain.com

I called before signing up for both accounts, and asked if they'd be able to access each other's DSN's. They told me that, out of the box, they wouldn't, but they'd be able to set it up that way for me. Sweet! I ordered the accounts.

They ran great for about a year or so. Then they upgraded CF to a newer version, and this function stopped working. A little notice would have been nice, as this was our Web site and out intranet. All of a sudden, 48 people were unable to sign in through our online timecard system, which turned into an accounting nightmare.

I called and asked about it, and nobody there knew anything about the special request they had in place before. When I asked if they could set it up this way again, I got a "we don't do that".

I don't blame them for this. They have a lot of accounts, and can't accomodate special requests like this. The only think I can really blame them for was agreeing to set it up that way from the beginning.

For sites that fit with their hosting accounts as they are, I would use them again in a heartbeat. For custom requests, not a chance.
