Coldfusion site development & your workflow?

Hi all, can anyone give some sage like advice to a Coldfusion virgin?

I've had experience with front end development but I'm struggling to make progress in developing database appplications using Coldfusion.

My problem seems to lie with my preferred learning method. In the past, I've progressed more effectively by working through more 'tangible' step-by-step guides in creating a definitive end-product, like websites/illustrations.

However with most of the Coldfusion books and online tutorials, I've found they deal mainly with components and other elements that don't give (well me anyway) the bigger picture and an end goal.

I've been scouring for step-by-step guides that give a point-of-reference for a typical workflow in the development of a Coldfusion site and have found nothing.

I was thinking of trying to develop a basic blog and bare-bones CMS in CF so was hoping anyone had any tips or references that they know of.

Any advice would be appreicated, Alex

Start with Ben Forta's ColdFusion 8 Web Application Construction Kit Volume
1: Getting Started

http://www.forta.com/books/032151548X/

Then look at his other ColdFusion books:

If you don't know SQL you should probably get one of the SQL books too:

And if you don't know database design I recommend you look at this book:
