Question

Correct IIS settings for CF 2021- still no solution.

Hello again

I've uninstalled/reinstalled CF 2021.Install does not cofigure IIS and can not access wsconfig.exe post install. Errors out.

This is becomming frustrating, as I never had any such issues starting back before MX.

The old install of CF 2016 is long gone.

With screenshots I am providing, ids there anything that stands out?

Thank You!

A quick observation looking at the ISAPI Filters screenshot you provided. I cannot see an entry "Tomcat" which wsconfig.exe creates.

Either try to create that entry manually yourself or try re-installing again using administrative rights.

    Norman, I hear your frustration.

Judging from your error, I think you will find the solution in this other discussion here, about a need for you to run the Visual C++ redistrutable installer. That thread has a link to get it, and a discussion of why. Bottom line: did you install CF2021 onto this machine using the full CF installer? or the "zip" installer? If the latter, the issue is that the zip installer does not implement the Visual C++ redistributable, where the full installer always has.

I realize a lot of people seem to somehow fall into using the zip installer, when it may not be needed. IT is what it is. To be clear, this issue and more about the zip install experience (and the need to run a cfinstall program after unzipping it) is discussed in this blog post from Adobe

Also, I'm curious: when you say that the CF2016 is long gone, it's not clear: are you saying you DID have CF2016 on this machine before? If so, something not clear from your screenshots is whether those handler mappings are from CF2021 or 2016. I suspect they are from 2016.  And you would need to remove them before the CF2021 wsconfig tool would work (once the above is resolved). But if you uninstalled CF2016, you also uninstalled that CF2016 wsconfig tool.

I don't know if it's enough for someone to share it with you. I do think the EXE relies on the corresponding wsconfig.jar to be found in the directory under CF2016 where it would be normally. And yo umay find you can't just right-click on the handler mappings to remove them in IIS. I will say that one CAN remove them via the underlying XML config for IIS, which may be a web.config file in the web site's webroot.

Or it may be the central applicationhost.config in windows/system32/inetsrv.config. but fiddling with that is risky if you are not familiar with it. I will say that I could help get you sorted in a quick online consulting session, perhaps as fast as 15 mins. More at carehart.org/consulting.

As for your frustration with the CF installer not offering to connect to IIS (or Apache), that is now new. It's been so in CF2021 and 2018. I thought it was even in 2016, but if you recall installing it and it did appear, then it may be since CF2018. Anyway, bottom line, that's no bug in CF. It was a conscious choice on their part, frustrating and confusing though it may be, especially for folks simply "expecting" it, and not knowing how else to get such a web server configuration setup.

Hope that helps at least some.

Hello Charlie- thanks for all that information.

So in the last few days I began un-installing & re-installing 2021, then tried 2016 again- same poblem.

I searched & deleted  every bit of CF I could find after running the built-in uninstaller, from appdata/roaming  to all the registries.

It's odd to me that 2016 was running with no issues before I installed 2021, yet after I cleared 2021 completely & tried falling back to 2016, the same problem occured.

I never used the zip version. Also, before I do any install of CF, I make sure I already have the latest Visual C++ version as well as java8 update.

So maybe we can set something up like remoting to my workstation and doing things I would not try?

Just as an aside, I began hosting websites using CF in 1998. I have ancient install discs from that era from Allaire, Macromedia- even Drumbeat when I was debating learning ASP (never did).

    Thanks Again,

    Norman B.
