Question

Deactivating Cloned ColdFusion Licence

We'd like to duplicate the Production VM, which runs a licensed copy of ColdFusion 2021, and run the clone as a Test VM.

Will deactivating the ColdFusion licence in the Test VM impact the licence in the Production VM?

I'm assuming "no", but would appreciate confirmation before going ahead.

Thanks.

    Hi @Aidan Whitehall

It will not have any impact if the license is activated in 2 VMs(Prod & Test). However, from the licensing perspective, I hope you are covered to run the same license in 2 VMs.

    Thanks, Priyank Shrivastava

That is not what Aidan is trying to do.  He very clearly states that their intention is to run one activated/licensed instance and one developer instance.

    • If the activated/licensed server is cloned will it have the same DeviceID as reported in the CFAdmin | Licensing and Activate | Usage screen?
    • What happens when the cloned instance is deactivated thus putting it into Developer mode in order to maintain license compliance?  If the machines have the same Device ID, will deactiving the clone also deactivate the original server?

Answer: ask CF Support (cfsup[at]adobe.com). They are best placed to tell you.

When they do, could you please share with the forum how it went. That would help the next developer.
