Having problems getting started with Solr

I have just loaded CF 10 and I wanted to create  aserach collection but I'm recieving an error. The system tells me to look at the log file for more details. but I don't seem to be able to find it.. Also after researching this online it would seem that the windows servcies is not loaded. I've down loaded the standalong version but I'm not sure if this is the best course of action.

When you say you "don't seem to be able to find it", do you mean you can't find the logs, or that you can't find the issue within the logs?

Check services and make sure that the Solr server is set to start automatically, then right-click the Solr service and start it.

I loaded the stand along version because I sure I did load it durning the installation.  but  now the jetty service will not load. I only loaded the service thinking that would be what i need. I'm lost
