Hosting.com - Dramatic price increase

Hey CF developers just wanted to post about an email I got from Hosting.com.  I currently pay $179/month for a VPS hosting plan and I recently got an email that says they are going to up the charge to $400+ a month unless I switch to Cloud Enterprise.  So I talk to Sales, and to get the exact same package I was paying $179 for over on Cloud Enterprise I'd have to pay at least $250.

Hmmm... Something smells funky over at Hosting.com.

Back in the day when they were Hostmysite.com they were great.  Affordable with good Cust. Service.  Now all this is bunk.

I'm frustrated.  But the root cause of this forums post is that I need some advice on CF Hosting.

Who will offer me the best hosting?  I need at least 100Gig of Storage and preferably 4Gig of RAM.  I don't want to pay more than I was at Hosting.com VPS.  I don't need tons of support (just security and hardward/software updates) and don't have a preference of Linux vs. Windows.

Anyone have suggestions?

I have been VERY happy with http://www.kickassvps.com. They have VPSs and Virtual Dedicated (Hyper-V) that, I think, are all reaosnably priced.

Media3 Technologies has very affordable ColdFusion 9 VPS hosting packages.

Media3 has been hosting ColdFusion since the mid 1990's.  The entire website and customer control panel is built in ColdFusion.

Here is a link to the ColdFusion 9 VPS hosting packages:

By the way... Kickass VPS has good pricing but their support blows.  I never get ahold of a live person, their hold music is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Soul to Squeeze", and they have messed up my server twice now by trying to help.  I give them kudos for being willing to step in and help out... but recently I asked why the time on the CF server was different than the actual box.  I never got an answer, but they tried to help and fix it... by doing so they killed all my scheduled tasks and all my scheduled task logging.

Is it me or is there an opportunity out there for a small company to really step up and host ColdFusion correctly!!????

Anywho... I started a different post on it specifically focused on the timing synch...

I'm sorry to hear you had an issue. They have always been very quick to reply to my support requests.

Since a VPS is an unmanged server it really is not their responsibility to fix the problem. You have full access to the server and the CF Install. The fact that they made a mistake while trying to help you (above and beyond the call I might add) does not mean that their support "blows". Mistakes happen.

KickAssVPS has been very reliable for me. Of course every company is going to come across someone who doesn't like something they do.

Good luck in getting your problem solved.  I saw the thread you started. You might want to add some more info to it.

    What version of CF?

    How far off is it?

    What version of Java?

How are you logging? <cflog>? Or somethign else?

Thats my point... I didnt really ask for or want their action/assistance. I don't dislike them... I just think due diligence and well thought out courses of action are mandatory before offering help. Don't offer to be the hero unless you are truly equipped.

OP  - I received the same email.   It's a shame HMS was taken over.  I will also sadly be transferring out.

I know you've gone with GoDaddy but one host to keep up your sleeve is Ayera.com.  Have a VPS with them for about a year now and they have been absolutely fantastic.  They certainly know their CF stuff.

I've noticed a trend with hosting companies (reading other forums etc) that once they change hands, their prices increase and the service decreases.

Thanks fellas.  I went with GoDaddy.  I was reluctant but the price was impossible to beat plus I got a 35% discount.

I'm happy to say adios to Hosting.com.  Since the buyout their offerings and service have slipped big time.

Nevermind on GoDaddy.  They neglected to mention that I need to purchase CF and install it myself.  So I went with KickassVPS.com.  So far so good.

I used to be a big fan of CFDynamics.com; they've unfortunately gone downhill with Customer Support.  I no longer keep track of their hosting rates.

godaddy.com isn't too bad, from what I've heard.
