Question

How do I reinstall Coldfusion 8?

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

My problems started when I tried to follow the "getting started" tutorial which uses an Access database.  I am aware there is no 64 bit JET driver, so I tried to do it through ODBC, but the Coldfusion Administrator informed me that service is not running.  After a bit of research, I decided to install the Coldfusion 8 updater, which now prevents the application server from starting.  I decided to start from a "clean slate," so I tried the Coldfusion Uninstaller, but it fails with this:  "ZeroGr8: C:\ColdFusion8\uninstall\resource\iawin32.dll not found."  Coldfusion will not work and I cannot remove it.  I tried to find the tech note 19187 about manually uninstalling Coldfusion, but the link no longer works, which I have reported to Adobe.

I just purchased this laptop yesterday, but I am not exactly keen on doing a full system restore to try again.  I will if I have to.

The basic process to manually uninstall CF:

1) Stop all Adobe and Macromedia ColdFusion services.

2) Remove all Adobe and Macromedia ColdFusion registry keys

3) Delete Jrun4|ColdFusion8 directories.

I spent 8 hours last Friday getting ColdFusion installed on my newish 64bit Vista machine.  I had to uninstall it several times.

I finally have Coldfusion working.

I had to stop all of the services and then rename the old Coldfusion directory to something else and then it allowed me to completely reinstall.  When I tried to rename the directory before stopping the services I was getting the extremely helpful "Access is denied."  When I tried running it through the runas command in the shell, I was getting a "windows cannot find the specified file" error, which is misleading to say the least.  I wish Windows would just tell you that the file has been locked by a certain process in the error message, but perhaps they thought that could have security implications.  But I digress.

Now the "getting started" tutorial is functional, but I had to change the query's datasource in art.cfc to cfttutorial.  There are a few broken picture links, but the important step has now been completed, so I can finally get around to learning Coldfusion.

Thank you for your time.
