How many instances of coldfusion can you realistically get away with?

Just trying to get a realistic idea of how many instances you can utilize within CF8 Enterprise without going overboard.

    It kinda depends on the server spec.

    Windows server 2003  with say 4 cpu and 5g of memory.

    It also depends on how you configure each ColdFusion instance... but you can figure that each instance is going to use somewhere from 1/2 gig to 2 gig (usually 1 to 1.5) of memory.  So that indicates you could probably fit between 2.5 and 10 instances, but most likely 4 to 5 for real world instances.

    Message was edited by: ilssac  P.S. These numbers are based on the somewhat more common 32 bit versions of ColdFusion.  With a 64 bit version, you can configure instances that use MUCH more memory.
