Question

How many sites in IIS

Not been on this forum for 18 months and so this question may sound lame ... esp as we were part of 8 BETA team. It has probably already been answered. Sorry.
We are FINALLY getting 'round to upgrading from 7 to 8.
Been at it since 2!
But, are we reading this correctly?
In versions MX7 and before, we could load CF on an IIS server and support MULTIPLE web sites on one "box".
It seems that in 8 this has changed and they want us to go to one CF server Standard licence per WEBSITE. Is this true? Has the business model changed?
So the upgrade price changes from around $640 to $6,000.
Do I need new glasses? Or is this true?
Yes, we called ADOBE for the answer and I am not kidding, after 6 (no exxxxxxageration) transfers they couldn't answer it AND told me that MX7 and before only supported 1 site at a time. Rubbish!
Does anyone here know?
Cheers
Robert

I met Ben a few times ... both Londoners ... cool cat.

He really knows his stuff ... as CF lost its "popularity", back in 1960, our clients could care less about features. So we got bored. Languished. Heck, please do not tell anyone :), I still have Studio; (aka Homesite) and last learned CFC's. Have I ever got a learning curve! Plan to spend the next year honing up on AJAX etc.

Luckily our small firm changed its market so today we can provide all new technologies to a new client base who may actually appreciate it!

Bought the upgrade.

Where's the keyboard ... ?

Yeah, even before the merger, dealing with Adobe support was a tedious
experience. I understand that support is complex, expensive and
difficult for large software companies. But sheesh, Adobe do you need
to keep demonstrating how bad it can get?

If you can get through the first line, usually one can get better
quality answers. I think that is why, sometime last fall Ben Forta
published direct contacts for two Adobe ColdFusion support specialists.
As far as I know they are still relevant. I'm sorry, but I no longer
have a link to the direct posting, but a careful search of his site
[www.forta.com] should turn it up. IIRC it was sometime last October.

Well 8 is much more about features then performance. If you don't need
or desire the new features it ain't going to be much of an upgrade. But
if you desire to dive into the newness of the AJAX, CFImage, PDF and
other enhancements it is quite nice.

Agreed.

I am just surprised that Adobe couldn't answer the question, nor provide pricing.

Not the Allaire we once knew!

Very curious how much better 8 is ... having dedicated test server built as we speak. Only a year late!

Thanks again ...

NO, you are not.

The confusion comes from the multiple definitions of 'server'. With
Standard CF you can only have one ColdFusion Server Instance. You are
welcome to have as many web server sites connected this one CF server as
you are comfortable with loading it down. The web servers can even be
located on other machines if you configure it in 'distributed' modes.

With Enterprise CF, you can have multiple ColdFusion Server Instances
running on a box, each one connected to as many web server sites as you
think your hardware can handle. This allows for CF application
isolation and role over effects on a single machine.

Thanks, Ian, for the reply ...

VERY poor wording .. "Ideal for delivering a single website or application on a single server".

Anyway, thanks for your clarification. Need a job at Adobe - think they might need to hire!!!?
