IIS vs Apache

Hi yall. I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I haven't been able to find anything on which is better for CF. I took over a CF site running on Apache, and it has worked great for us so far. We are going to build another site from scratch hosted on a different server (Win Server 2003), and I am at a crossroads where I have the option to choose IIS or Apache. I would like to hear your experiences and any pros and cons. Thanks!

Tom,

I think the issue for you is not IIS vs Apache for ColdFusion but Apache or IIS on Windows. In my experience, CF has run well on top of both web servers, however, I have read reports that Apache does not run as well on Windows (as opposed to its Linux/Mac stability and performance). I think you should look into the performance and stability of Apache running on Windows 2K3 or 2K8 servers before considering which of the two underlying servers to run.

Good luck!

Coming from a webhost point of view, we've preferred CF on Windows for some time now, though we will install it on Linux for dedicated server clients.

I cannot give you specifics on the reasoning, however I believe that our shared Linux plans that supported CF were discontinued after some time due to support issues where we just were no longer comfortable with the stability of those servers as compared to Windows running CF.
