Question

Install from server or workstation?

I have Coldfusion 8 and am trying to install it to a Windows 2003 Server. Problem is, my server only has a cd drive and the software came on a DVD. Can I install this to the server from my workstation? I have a share on the server where I want to install it, but not sure this is the way to go about things.
Calling Adobe was a nightmare of multiple recitings of my Customer ID, SN, Address, etc, etc, until I was finally told that it would cost money to get this question answered. Then they directed me to their support portal where supposedly I could log in with my customer id number and post a question that would be answered back in 48 hours. Well I have a Customer ID number but it also asks for a password which I never got, so I'm stuck.
I'd like to throttle the man in charge of this company and give him whatfor!
So, totally frustrated right now.

Also one more question, The install comes to a screen called Configure Web Servers/Websites. (I'm in the middle of trying to install this from my pc) You have the option of selecting the builtin web server (don't want that), or adding your own web server. When I click Add, I get a drop down for web server with only 2 options: Apache or Sun One Webserver. I don't know what to choose here. I was told by others that I just need to make sure that I have IIS running on the server, which I do. So if I select Apache, I then am supposed to supply the Configuration Directory as well as the directory or file name of server binary. This is all greek to me!! Please help!!

I hear that allot concerning Adobe support especially support of CF. My
standard response to this is to distribute the following link as widely
as possible.

The Dedicated Account Manager worked great for us last year when we
needed a question concerning our license answered and had been rebuffed
by the normal support channels as you seem to have been.

To answer your question, you should be able to move the files from the
DVD to any folder you like and install from there. If that gives you
any trouble, just download the installation from the Adobe website. I
haven't troubled myself with physical media for ColdFusion for neigh a
decade now. All you need is a valid license key to turn any 'free'
and|or 'developer' version of CF server into a fully licensed version.

Look at the page closely (I'm going from memory here) but it should
start with something to allow you to choose IIS or Apache. Then you get
into the details of each specific server.

just copy one installation .exe file to your server and then run it there.

re IIS - if you had it installed and running on your server cf installer
would have shown it to you as an option.

if you are installing from your pc to the server, maybe the installer is
looking at your pc and does not see IIS?
