Installing CF8.01 on Server 2008

I have attempted to install CF 8.01 on Server 2008 (standard). The install proceeds through all the steps until the file configuration which is supposed to bring up a web page. I have installed IIS 7.0 with the IIS 6.0 compatibility options. All the defaults were taken for the installation.

When an attempt is made to display the final configuration page this is what is displayed in the web browser:

HTTP Error 500.21 - Internal Server Error
Handler "AboMapperCustom-984803" has a bad module "IsapiModule" in its module list

Why does the install not work?

What is the resolution to this problem?

Thanks Ken. It appears that not enabling .NET may have been the problem but I am not 100% sure. There is no check in the CF install for the feature being required. Maybe I held my tongue wrong when inputting the RDS password.

If the .NET is indeed a requirement then the CF install needs to check for the requirement. I leave services off that I do not use and .NET is one such service. Perhaps the CF propeller head (developers) would make such a check in the installer.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. That is somewhere to start. Much appreciated. I will check that. Although I am only installing the 32 bit version of Server 2008 (software compatibility) and the 32 version of CF. What I am not sure about is if .NET is enabled.

Don't get me wrong I like CF. What I don't like is the Adobe support and the lack of resources from Adobe when there are problems. I blast Microsoft for the same assinine behavior (Incorrect DLL loaded; would it be so hard to provide the DLL name in the messgte?; as an example).

Also notice the system requirements for version 8 from the Adobe website ( http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/systemreqs).

Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3; Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, or Datacenter Server with Service Pack 3; Windows Server® 2003 Web, Standard, or Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1 and R2; Windows Server® 2008; Windows XP Professional or Home Edition; or Windows Vista®

Notice the Server 2008 is explicitly indicated as supported.

considering Server 2008 was not out when CF 8 launched, it likely wasn't tested for it.

new security enhancements have most likely caused it to fail. Try uninstalling and re-installing - if the same issue arises contact Adobe Support

Version 8.0 came out before Server 2008. Version 8.01 is supposed to be qualified to work with Server 2008. Yet it obviously doesn't.

The Adobe/Macromedia/Allaire developers apparently never install or test their product installation before declaring success. This installation process is so fragile that simply holding your thumb in the wrong position will cause it to fail. Case in point is changing the install location from C: to D: will cause failure. It has since version 6.0 and the problem still exists several versions later.

Providing a product, Version 8.01, that is supposed to be qualified for Server 2008, then not working, is simply unacceptable if CF is to remain a viable product.

We are running over 100 CF standalone and JRun on several servers. Most of the times, it is either E: or D: drive. I suggest you spend a little time to figure out the real cause in your particular case.

I don't see a reason why software architects or the testing team at Adobe won't test CF8 installer. Many software vendors including anti-virus suppliers are facing problem in rolling out their products for Vista or Win2008.
