Installing CFMX7 on Ubuntu 7.0.4

A colleague is trying to install CFMX7 on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn and having trouble. I understand that part of the problem is that we've been upgrading from earlier versions, and he claims he must install CFMX before CFMX7 - and that CFMX is incompatible with the version of the C++ compiler that comes with Feisty.

Is this true? Any ways around it that don't involve rpms?

    Excellent - will try that.

I had heard that installing on Feisty has some issues (which are covered at http://www.compoundtheory.com/?action=displayPost&ID=233 ) so we'll see. Will probably upgrade to MX8 when it comes out.

It sounds like these install issues are the standard issues that have been worked around for many of the newer, unsupported linux platforms. It does not sound like installing cfmx7 should be a problem, other than it is unsupported.

The main issue with it being 'unsupported' means that if you run into a bug that is specific to Fiesty and does not occur on supported linux platforms, that bug is not likely to be addressed by Adobe.

You do not need to install cfmx6 and upgrade to cfmx7. Download the trial or developer's version of CFMX7.02 from the Adobe download page. All installers are the same and it is just the license (or lack of) that will determine the version of CFMX7 that runs. Make sure you have your CFMX6 and CFMX7 license numbers.

Install CFMX7 as the trial. Configure it. Then open the cfmx administrator to the information page. Input your cfmx7 license. If it is an upgrade license, you will then need to put in your previous cfmx6 or cf5 license. You will then be running CFMX7.02 standard or enterprise based on your license.
