Intermittent PDF Performance Issues

We "randomly" started experiencing intermittent performance issues on PDF generation.  No changes were made to the code or ColdFusion configurations.  We are on CF 2021 Update 9.  When performance issues start all PDF functionality is slow but all other non-PDF generating actions appear to be fine.  During performance issues, we are getting various error messages ranging from document timeout issues, image files not found, and cfcontent erroring out on deleting file with following message: "Check if another request or process is not using the file.".  Not sure if it just noise but I also see this in event viewer:
