Question

Is Coldfusion ready for AlmaLinux now that Centos7 is EOL?

We have been running Coldfusion Standard Edition on Centos7 for 5 years and curently on CF2021.  However, Centos7 will reach EOL in June 2024 and we need to start planning the move now. The most popular sucessor to Centos is currently AlmaLinux.

Can you confirm that either CF2021 or CF2023 is compatible with AlmaLinux.  If not, can you please provide an update as to whether an installer for AlmaLinux is being worked on and when we can expect an announcement.

Because of the massive popularity of this platform I imagine there will be a flood of requests over the coming months.

Good news/bad news there. The bad news is that FORMALLY it's not listed as supported in the CF2023 support matrix, and same for CF2021.

The good news, though, is that I've found that Adobe DOES in fact offer their Azure VMI for CF2023 (as well as CF2021) for Alma--among other distros of Linux, as well as Windows. So it surely seems that CF2023 DOES support it, despite what the support matrix says. And in fact I have raised this point in a comment where someone else asked in the CF bug tracker about this matter of CF support of Alma. You'll want to add a vote there.

But while we await their clarification (there or here), I hope folks running Alma might share their experience. I can say I've heard from at least one person that it worked fine, but of course such one-off experiences aren't going to be sufficient for some to trust running it. But I do think the fact that they offer an Azure VMI running on Alma seems very much to suggest that it should work fine for everyone. Again, let's wait to hear from them, here or there.
