Question
Licensed Coldfusion Server 5, EXPIRED
Hi,
We had an unforgettable problem with our Coldfusion application yesterday, May 17, 2006! Our system operator noticed that the last successful scheduled task ran last May 16, 2006, afterwhich all scheduled task resulted to an error! During problem isolation, we tried to access the coldfusion administrator page, but it was not accessible. We then restarted the coldfusion service but it resulted to an error... We have a log file file states this message, "A problem was encountered trying to access the system registry. Error number 13 occurred - The specified registry key does not exist." We also had a message which states that our license has already expired. Then we tried to access the administrator page thru the server using http://localhost/cfide/administrator/ but we were not able to enter the administrator page cause it does not accept the administrator password that we know of. After 2 hours of trying to hack and guess the administrator password, we decided to reinstall the Coldfusion server, and it worked properly afterwards.
By the way we are running on Red Hat Linux 7.3 and Apache Server 1.3.27.
This incident caused us a lot of money cause our orders which passes through our coldfusion application were not processed on time. My question is, is it normal for a LICENSE Coldfusion Server 5 to EXPIRE WITHOUT any indication that it will expire? Is there a whitepaper which states that we should update our serial number given a certain period so that it will not expire?
I would greatly appreciate your inputs on this matter.
Regards,
Rhoy
