Looking for a good reference/instruction manual for Coldfusion 8

Hi everybody.

I did a search on this topic, but didn't see anything recent.

I am somewhat new to Coldfusion and am looking for a good reference/instruction manual. After a recommendation, I went to Amazon to order:

" Adobe ColdFusion 8 Web Application Construction Kit, Volume 1: Getting Started" by Ben Forta et al, but after reading the reviews, am hesitant to buy it.

Should I go with this book, go with the previous book: " Macromedia ColdFusion MX 7 Web Application Construction Kit" - which has GREAT reviews, or is there something else that is recommended.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Brian

Sankalan,

thank you very much for taking the time to help.

That is a great reference/instruction base.

The Forta books are never a waste of money. I think the value is somewhat diminished due to the fact that the online documentation is so readilly available.

I bought all the books up through version 7, but find that I use them less and less over the years. Perhaps my experience has gotten to the point where I dont need them as much, but again, the online docs answer just about everything.

If you are starting out with CF from scratch, get the book for the version you are working with. If you have been using CF for a few years, I would say the value is greatly diminished, but still significant. A lot of it is dependent on your learning style, too. If you learn more by dong than by reading, that will influence your decison, too.

EDIT: Stange, but the word that is blocked out in the above text is "D-O-I-N-G". Apparently that word offends someone?!?!?!
