opening .doc and .pdf without interface tools

hi gang,

i have several sites that include word docs and pdfs for viewing and
download... problem is, when you click on link, window that opens has either a
text editing interface for docs or an adobe interface with tools for pdfs...

is there a way to open just a window with the document only... sort of like
the javascript for opening html pop-up windows that sets things like size,
toolbar, etc.

The only way I know for this to happen is if you can write your own
browser or browser plug-in and then get everybody who uses your site to
use this tool rather then the ones they have already choosen to handle
these tasks.

I.E. This is a client issue and the client is going to choose how this
works.
