    Hello,

I would say the following are good things to watch/prepare for:

    1. Back up all sites
    2. Export your CF admin settings (DSNs, Mappings, etc.) as this can be a pain in the butt to re-enter. Following is a link to a blog post from Alagad about doing just this (it's for CfMX 7 but should apply to 6): http://www.alagad.com/go/blog-entry/export-coldfusion-7-settings
    3. In addition, check out Josh Adam's post on going from CFMX 6 to CF 8: http://blog.joshuaadams.com/index.cfm/2008/9/4/Upgrading-from-ColdFusion-MX-to-ColdFusion-8

    Good luck!

Back up your production server to your test server, so you have a current image. Apply the desired version of CF to the test server and test EVERYTHING. Invite others to test areas they are familiar with, etc.

Once you are satisfied that things are running as expected, upgrade your production server.
