I install coldfusion and then it tells me to go to http://localhost/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm however when I go there it says The requested URL /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm was not found on this server.

why is this doing this? Thanks!

the CFIDE was already in my wwwrooot folder
Not really important, until we know which web server you're using. Is it Coldfusion's built-in web server, IIS or Apache?

Here's how to find out which one you installed. Open the Web Server Configuration Tool. The tool is automatically installed alongside Coldfusion, and there should be a link to launch it in your desktop's Start menu. Alternatively, locate the file wsconfig.exe and launch it. An interface will appear, showing you the web server.

OK, in services i found Coldfusion MX7 application server and Coldfusion MX 7 search server both of which say started.

when I go in the task manager, I see the jrun.exe but NOT the JRunsvc.exe.

When i open the web server configuration tool, a box pops up that says configured web servers and then has listed
[localhost: coldfusion] Internet information server (IIS): ALL

It seems Coldfusion is running and IIS is configured as the webserver. I would advise you to begin with Coldfusion's own built-in webserver, not IIS. Once you have experimented enough and got your test-site running, you could then switch to IIS.

So, 'remove' IIS. To do so, open the Web Server Configuration Tool, select IIS and press on the Remove button.

Restart Coldfusion. To do so, go again to Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Services . Right-click on Coldfusion MX7 and select Restart. Coldfusion should now open the index.cfm pages using its own built-in webserver.

It doesnt look like coldfusion is running...how can I get it running?
It depends on your Operating System. What is it? What makes you think Coldfusion might not be running?

What is your webserver? Coldfusion's in-built JRun, Apache, IIS? For example, with IIS, you may have to move the Coldfusion system directory, CFIDE, to /Inetpub/wwwroot/ .
