Question

Real Estate / Classified Software

I've been using ColdFusion on my Website for years. I'm not a developer, but "get by" and appreciate the fact that I can develop applications for my site with ColdFusion --- without having to hire an outside developer. Major savings! Before developing something on my own, I always try to find an existing application (cf-based) to buy that will suit my needs. It used to be easy -- there were so many applications to buy/for free. Now, unless I'm looking for something like blog software, it's impossible to find an application that was developed recently -- that looks good.

For example, I'm looking for a simple program to enable people to submit multiple classified listings on our Website (real estate & jobs mostly), submit pics, and pay -- or link out to pay for the listing -- (and log in again to manage listings). Before starting my search, I thought that it would be easy to find something since it's such a common application! Everything I've found was developed ages ago (for cf 4.5 etc) and looks less than professional. In my searching, I always end up finding dozens of sleek, php-based products. It makes me worried about our site's reliance upon ColdFusion.

Do other people feel this way? Are people starting to diversify (using some php or other) in order to lessen their dependence upon CF?

Does anyone know of a good real estate classified system for CF? Or, should we use php for this?

Thanks, in advance, for your opinions!

    Hi,
I am not sure about the applications you're looking for in particular, but I find there are several rock-solid solutions out there, which are free (as always, if you appreciate someone else's work, you should donate/give them something off their Amazon Wish-list or similar), such as Raymond Camden's excellent applications

    Galleon (Forums)
    Lighthouse Pro (Bugtracker)
    BlogCFC

etc. - check it out on coldfusionjedi.com

There are more, riaforge.com is another place to look.

I agree a few things on the Adobe exchange looks a bit dated. As far as I am concerned, they could probably remove everything that hasn't been updated/verified in the last four years...
