Reconnect to Database

Our 4.5 servers recently lost their connection to our Oracle 8i database, but our CF8 (enterprise) did not. We're planning to check database connectivity every 15 minutes and reconnect to the database if necessary. Is there a way to do this last part? Preferably as part of a script? I think our sysadmin wants to use a .bat file, but whatever is available would really help. Thanks!
