Restarting Coldfusion

Hello. I am having a problem with my website where it keeps going down. THe hosting company states that it it an error with Coldfusion 5 which is what we are using. They state they have to restart Coldfusion. After they have supposively done so the site is back up. I don't know much about this and have never heard of it. Can someone help me out explaining if this is correct and why it happens? For some reason I feel they are playing around and not telling us something. Thanks
