I registered to get Flex and Coldfusion for free as I am a student studying web development at university. I was able to install flex just fine but coldfusion doesn't like my serial number when I type it in before installing it.

Is this common or is it just me?

I have an acer 5920g laptop running a 64bit version of Windows 7 RTM. Plus my download of Coldfusion is 64bit too.

I'm installing it unde rthe free trial but is there still anyway I can enter my serial number that adobe sent me?

Cheers.

Which version fo CF is the key for, and which version are you trying to install?

A CF8 key is possibly not going to work with CF9.

Until you get it sorted out, just - as Ian suggests - install it without a licence key and select the "developer" option.  It will not hinder you in any way, and you can enter the licence key later on.

https://freeriatools.adobe.com/coldfusion/

It says version 9 on the site but I'm downloading version 8 to see if it'll work.

Can education customers including students, faculty, and staff get ColdFusion for free?

ColdFusion 9 is available for free to all eligible education customers for learning purposes only and not for production purposes. Students, faculty, and staff can get serial numbers to activate downloadable trial versions by registering on the registration site. During registration, you will be prompted to upload a copy of your student ID, faculty ID, or employee ID, or you can upload a letter on institutional letterhead proving your current affiliation with an educational institution. Once validated, you will be e-mailed a free educational serial number for ColdFusion 9. It may take up to two weeks after the request for you to receive the serial number.

That is interesting, this seems to be something new for ColdFusion 9 that I have not experienced before.  It makes me wonder what is the difference between this 'Education' license and the usual free Developer License.

It does indicate that this is an 'Enterprise' level license, so are you sure you where installing the "Enterprise" option during your installation?  This is different then the 'Standard' level and and Enterprise license is not going to work in a Standard installation.

Leave the serial number blank on ColdFusion.

No serial number equals 30 day free trial which then turns into the free developer version of the ColdFusion server.

The only difference between the trial version and the developer version is that the deveoper version is restricted to two incomming IP address connections per ColdFusion startup, a few connection throttles and any reports or pdf files generated will have a "Developer Edition" watermark.

You only need a serial number if you pay for a production license to serve web pages to the public.

I presume the serial number is for Flex Builder.  It does not apply to ColdFusion which would use a seperate serial number if you where buying a production license.

The developer edition of ColdFusion is free to everybody and never needs a serial number.  Putting no serial number in is how you make a ColdFusion installtion the developer version.
