shibolith plus coldfusion causes Safari to not load xhr

I set up a trap to log the requests to the website.  It appears that the request initiated by the AJAX call is never getting to the CF engine.  The webtools for Safari indicate that the AJAX request is going to the server, there’s a redirection to Shib (to validate authentication?), and that’s when Safari returns an error.

As soon as this returns the alert set to fire on an error is triggered.
