Question

Tablet PC

Hi,

I'm very sorry to ask this question that is not related to ColdFusion at all. Does anybody know if Visual Studio work in Tablet PC? The reason I asked is that the salesperson in BestBuy tells me that Table PC is designed for viewing only, such as surfing on the Internet. Since I see MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc., are all installed in the Tablet PC, so I would assume Visual Studio should work in Tablet PC as normal laptops do. Would anybody agree?

I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone (the more the better) can give me some feedback on this before I go ahead and buy the Tablet PC for the purpose of .NET development using Visual Studio.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Yes, anything that runs on a normal Windows PC will run just fine on a tablet PC as well. I've not used Visual Studio on mine, but I use tons of other Windows applications and do all my development work in CFEclipse and CF Studio without a hitch (other than as tclaremont points out, the limitations of using such IDEs on small monitors). I particularly like using it when I have to work in areas where I can't use a mouse as I'm really not fond of touch pads and prefer using the pen interface. It's really awesome as well for keeping notes on projects and writing quick database diagrams, etc. I really wish they just weren't so much more expensive than regular laptops or I'm sure they would be MUCH more popular.

I am doing some playing around with VS08 on my desktop, and I am set up with dual 22 inch monitors. I have code view on one monitor and preview pane in the other window. I cant imaging how hard on the eyes it would be to develop on a tablet.

Of course, I am blind in the right eye, so I need all the help I can get.

tclaremont,

Thanks very much for the feedback. I kinda have the same concerns as you. Unfortunately, I need the tablet for the purpose of traveling, especially when I'm on the plane.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Happy Holidays!!!
