Upgrade Coldfusion 8 Multiserver to Coldfusion 9 Multiserver

So I am working on a new web environment that we are planning to rollout in January and I have all of the servers setup, configured and ready to go.  They are running CF 8 multiserver and everything runs pretty great right now.  Now that coldfusion 9 is out management wants to go live with the new web environment on CF 9 so as not to start off behind a version.

Platform:

Solaris 10 (64 bit) : Apache 2.2.10 (64 bit) : Cf 8.0.1

My question then is is there anyway to just upgrade 8 to 9 or do I have to jump through all of the archive, uninstall, reinstall and restore hoops?  Is there an easy method for upgrading the multiserver install?

The oh so incredible documentation alludes to the possibility of upgrading.

"The ColdFusion installation process supports the following scenarios:

New installation
Install ColdFusion on a computer with no earlier ColdFusion installation.

Upgrade installation
You can upgrade from ColdFusion MX 7 and ColdFusion 8. When upgrading, the installer preserves the existing settings and installs in a new directory, automatically assigning ports that do not conflict with the existing installation."
I have to assume that this "upgrade" is only possible for single server installs since the multiserver option is grayed out when you run the installer.
I thought that I would post something here before I went full bore into trying to do it with the archive restore method (which I am hoping will work.)
Thanks in advance for any input.
Steve
