Question

Upgrade JRun from CF 8 multiserver to CF 9.

Ok, I decided to upgrade from CF 8 multiserver to CF 9.
I want to use CF 9 only for new applications, the old ones should continue to run with CF 8.
So, I tried to install CF 9 Multiserver but it detect a previous JRun installation and prevent me to continue.
Is there any way to upgrade only the underlying JRun mantaining all the current CF 8 instances?

JRun 4 with update 7 (November 6 2007 - build 108621) is the latest version and apparently Adobe has discontinued further development of it. http://www.adobe.com/products/jrun/ Check your version (build number) under settings->version.  Updater 7 is available here: http://www.adobe.com/support/jrun/updaters.html

You'll be fine.  Create a new instance and deploy the CF9 ear file to it.

I wouldn't run like that forever, though.  If you need to get through in a pinch, it works great.

Why not create a new instance in your existing JRun and deploy a CF 9 EAR file to it?

It's an option, but I'm not sure it's the correct one. As you told me JRun that comes with CF 9 should have  few more patches. I have a production server with a lot of critical application and I want to find the less invasive option because the old application should continue to work with CF 8.

None of the patches to JRun - if Jochem is right and there are any - will prevent you running a CF9 instance on your current CF8-multi-server-JRun-install.  IE: the patches are not necessary for CF9 to run.

If said JRun patches were significant, Adobe would have released them as separate JRun patches.

    I think you'll be fine.
