hello there

We have recently purchased the CF8 upgrade to upgrade our CF7 installations. I have went through the upgrade on a development box successfully but noticed that CF7 is still installed (services have been stopped) after the CF8 upgrade has been run. Im curious as to the best practice with the CF7 installation, should i just leave it installed and ensure the services are stopped or should i uninstalled CF7. The server is just running our internal application and we are not hosting any other sites.

thanks

If you have the space, and CFMX7 is not running, then that should be fine. There is no "best practice" link or technote that I could find to address your concern, but if you want to uninstall CFMX 7, you can just backup the CFusionMX7 directory and uninstall. your CFMX7 settings are stored in your CFusionMX7/lib directory under the neo-*.xml files. The only caution with uninstalling the previous version of ColdFusion is that it will try to uninstall/delete its webroot/CFIDE. If you have a webroot/CFIDE that is now CF8's, it will be deleted. The workaround is to make a copy of CFIDE in advance. Then run the cfmx7 uninstall. If your CFIDE disappears, simply restore from your copy.

If the /CFIDE in your webroot is a virtual directory pointing to coldfusion8/wwwroot/CFIDE, you can simply recreate the virtual directory in IIS.
