Upload big size of file to server

My problem is when a size of file is big let say more than 50MB, sometime it can be upload but sometime its hang like no end.and then after a while its prompt request time out. Is there any way that I can use either to compress the file or split using CFML coding?I don't want to use WinZip or other compression software coz my client don't know how to use it.
