Question

AI to PS Color Management

Hi,

I thought I understood my color management settings clearly better than I actually do. I have a document in illustrator, set sRGB, using a background grey that is #ededed. I have that placed in a Photoshop sRGB file and the value is not identical when inkdropped (it's inkdropping as #ececec).
Now, given that they are both RGB docs using the same sRGB color profile, shouldn't the color appear identical, regardless of if the preferences are to converted to working space, or preserve embedded profiles?
My current Bridge profile I created has "preserve embedded" for both RGB and CYMK and is referencing my built color preferences file.

Thanks,

Mike

I bugged this with the Photoshop team (I was placing Ai as a Smart Object and brand colours needed to be maintained) and as far as I know, there are no plans to fix it.

That difference (exactly 1/255) looks like it could be a rounding or calculation effect.

If profiles are matched, why would there be a rounding error? I'm not sure I understand how that could happen.

Well, consider that a hex value is just a representation of the actual numbers. Perhaps Photoshop stores a number from 0-255. Perhaps Illustrator stores a floating point value from 0.0 to 1.0. This could round differently. Coding choices can easily do this. Do you see it is only a difference of +- 1? (I ask because not everyone knows what hex codes really mean, so sometimes people don't know how to judge significant change).

    Hey Mike,

Make sure the document includes the embedded profile.  Check to make sure both PS AI are using the same color settings. That should solve this problem.

Hi Bob, I set my color manangement by loading a profile through Bridge using a profile I built. AI and PS are both using the same profile. Should that not be enough? Also, the default for AI is to embed the profile, correct?
