Hello everyone,

Thanks everyone for your time reading this. As the title says, I am experiencing a trouble with some pictures that I've took for a client. I took them in ARW with my sony a6000, totally flat/neutral pictures so I could add the colour in post-production. But the thing is, when I open the pictures, even in preview mode on the macbook they are with colour. But in the miniature, they are "flat/neutral".

I am attaching a picture of the "miniatures", you can see that two of the pictures are flat, and the two other are normal. But when I open them they all are with a normal profile with colour on it.

I hope you can understand my problem.

Thanks a lot for your guys time.

So let me see if I can understand the problem.  You took all the photos using your Sony a6000 in AWR format.

But you have 2 that appear correct in the thumbnails, and 2 that look colorful.  That's a confusing problem for sure!

AWR format is Sony's raw file format, so essentially there are no pixels created for these images, just sensor data, ISO data, lens data, and EXIF.  So if there is a problem with color it may be because, 2 of the files were opened in ACR and some processing was used to see how they might look, but they were not canceled and the Done button was selected.   That saves the ACR color adjustments tp an EXIF file or embeds that info.   No files are harmed in doing this and the raw data is still preserved.  Bridge would use the ACR data in its preview generation and make the thumbnails.   Really not sure why all of the thumbs were the same when you opened them, but know that your data is fine.  Check to see if the files come up with the same edits in ACR.  If so that's why and the previews on 2 of them were not updated.

    Hello Bob!

Thanks a lot for your message, this is actually a very confusing problem. You totally got my problem, on the printscreen that I've provided you can see 4 pictures: two of them were taken on a Flat profile with the Sony a6000. The other two were taken on a colourfull profile, as well with the sony a6000. The problem is when I open the flat/neutral pictures, they have colour, but when I close the preview they stick back to flat/neutral in the thumbnail. If I open them with Lighroom or photoshop, they will save the colour and they'll no longer be flat/neutral in the thumb.

I didn't even had Adobe Bridge in my macbook, I just downloaded it and went on the ACR settings and pressed "Camera Raw Defaults". Nothing happened. This is so weird, when I opened the folder with the pictures on Adobe Bridge, ALL of the pictures got coloured automatically... This is problably something that I've activated, somehow, to add colour/a profile automatically just by opening the picture. Either the problems is this, or can also be a bug from the camera by taking pictures in a flat profile and others on a "normal" profile with colour.

This only happened now... I've been taking pictures in flat profile before and post producing them without any problem. Now that I also took some pictures with another profile (colour) they seem to get colour in the apps... This is really weird... Hope I can get some info on this, not just for me but also for anyone experiencing the same problem (went online to check about this problem and didn't found nothing about this...)

    Thanks a lot 🙂

Have you tried the Camera Faithful or Camera Neutral Profile along with the White Balance set to As Shot?

By neutral I assume you are looking for a black and white RGB image with equal RGB values? If that‘s the case there are black and white presets when you choose Preview>Browse... in Camera RAW:

    Hello Rob,

Unfortunatlly thats not the case here... My photos are flat/neutral from the camera and I want them to be like that right when I tranfer them to the computer. Somehow they're getting colour automatically when I open them...

    Thanks.
