BenQ PD2700U lifted black levels in sRGB mode

I am primarily a video editor. I received a PD2700U yesterday. It's currently sitting next to my SW2700 that I've used for years. I noticed right out of the box that in sRGB mode on the PD2700u the blacks were not black at all. They looked very washed out. If I switched to Rec709, it looked fine but I really wanted to be able to work in sRGB. I calibrated the monitors to match (ColorMunki Display) and I can say that in Rec709, they do but sRGB is worlds apart to the point that it's not even usable.

Maybe there is a setting that I'm missing? Maybe I should just keep it in rec709? Should I be creating new profiles in the user mode and not using the factory modes at all?

TL;DR : NVIDA was setting my display to limited levels.

    Hello,

I know this post is a bit old, but maybe I can shed more light on this problem.
I am also a video editor and also bought the BenQ PD2700U. Not having huge piles of cash lying around, 516€ was a lot of cash for me to spend on a screen.
Once I received my monitor, I hooked it up to my laptop (an Acer Predator). Whislt doing some color grading, I couldn't help but notice that my new monitor seemed to have washed out blacks.
I thought "no, that can't be right, we're talking about a 500€, 100% REC709 and sRGB screen here, the problem probably came from my laptop all along.
But boy was I wrong. Turns out the only issue was NVIDIA sticking it's nose where it shouldn't, and the default display profil was set to "limited levels" instead of "full levels" (in the NVIDIA Control Pannel).
If anyone else has that issue, try checking that.
    Best of luck,

    Hi

Sorry to mention this but, unfortunately, I have heard of a lot of issues with benQ's own calibration software. Your issue just adds another to the list.

Maybe you'd like to test basICColor display 6 software, in my experience that has been able to solve a multitude of issues for others.

Try an "auto calibration" workflow and see manual for info on DDC support. If your benQ has that great, otherwise try a manual calibration workflow. see manual page 11 and 18 for info on this.

Yeah bias alert! I'm, a dealer.

Here's an expert review and intro to the software

Heres a link to the current (Aug 2, 2020) display manual in case you'd like to take a look without installing the basICColor display 6 software right away

    I hope this helps you

if so, please "like" my reply and if you're OK now, please mark it as "correct", so that others who have similar issues can see the solution

    thanks
