Color Management in InDesign on Windows: Similar to Photoshop or Dependent on Main Display?

I have a question regarding color management in Adobe InDesign on a Windows system. Is it similar to how Adobe Photoshop handles color, or does it depend on the main display settings? In my case, it seems to be dependent on the main display. I believe it should function independently of this. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. “I have a wide gamut monitor and therefore have oversaturated colors. Thank you.

I looked more closely on OSX, and I see it on CC2021 and CC2024. I only use my 2nd monitor for panels and don’t pay much attention to the 2nd monitor color in InDesign.

Went back to CC2014 and I get a reasonble match to Photoshop on the 2nd display—InDeign uses a JPEG proxy for the linked image preview, so I think you have to consider that difference. Here’s a GRACoL 2013 CMYK image displayed in PS & ID on my second display in CC2014 vs CC2024:

    CC2014:

CC2024 on Ventura, same happens with CC2016 on Mojave:

@rob day that certainly does look like a bona fide bug, I hope if it's reported to Adobe they can do something about it.

This has not been a problem in my observations of WCS.  Double check your monitor profiles.  One may be corrupt.

Only the monitor (no matter which one) that has been set as the primary is displayed correctly. I don’t think it’s a profile error as I regularly calibrate my monitors

Sounds like a hardware issue.  Graphics card or driver.  An underpowered graphics card or old/bad driver can also cause this issue.

I just tested on a Win 10 dual monitor setup, and InDesign is correctly color managed on both monitors.

The monitors are both wide gamut Eizos, so I had to check with sRGB material to make sure any errors would show clearly.

So whatever the issue is, it's not InDesign, and it's not Windows (barring any Win 11-specific bugs, but I haven't heard of any). In fact, the question is meaningless until you tell us how your displays are profiled. What calibrator are you using?

I’m using a ViewSonic monitor that has been profiled with its Colorbration+ software and  I also have another consumer-grade monitor that I’ve profiled using the Spyder calibration tool.

Have you checked in Windows color management that the correct profile is set up as default for each display? Check the rolldown at the top for the secondary display:
