Question

Error when using Adobe Color Print Utility

Hi,

I'm trying to use the ACPU to print a Fotospeed Colour Management test chart onto various papers so that I can submit to have custom ICC profiles created.

I'm on a MacBook running Sequoia 15.6.1

After selecting the printer (Canon Pro-310) paper type, paper feed and print quality I click 'Print' but then immediately get an error popup as shown below.

If I click 'OK' then it goes on to print, but I'm concerned that the printed image may not be absolutely correct and suitable for profiling.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this, whether it's actually and issue and, if so,  how to resolve?

Thanks

@nickroper I've never seen that issue with the ACPU but it was discontinued long ago (before macOS Catalina), so this could be a macOS compatibility issue.

Anyhow, I'd imagine Fotospeed have plenty of customers using this process, so they'd be ideally placed to help/ advise you.

Watch out for the Sequioa printer settings issue too, it MAY be fixed now, but best to check - more info here macOS Sequioa / Photoshop 25 and messed up print settings during printing

    I hope this helps

@nickroper did you try asking Google, their  AI might provide a bit of info that’s useful to you:

To resolve the Adobe error "an error occurred while getting the default printer profile" on a Mac, you should focus on resetting the printing system in macOS and recreating the printer instance, or resetting Adobe's preferences.

Solution 1: Reset the macOS Printing System
This action clears potential corruption in print settings by deleting all printers and print job information.
    1. On your Mac, go to Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Control-click the printer in the list (or the empty list if no printers are shown).
    3. Select Reset Printing System.
    4. After the reset, click the Add button (+) to re-add your printer.
    5. Test printing from Adobe.

Solution 2: Recreate the Printer Instance in macOS
This method involves removing and then re-adding only the printer experiencing issues.
    1. Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select the printer and click the Delete button (-).
    3. Click the Add button (+) and follow the steps to re-add the printer.

    Solution 3: Reset Adobe Preferences
Corrupted preferences can cause printing errors. Resetting them restores default settings.
    1. Quit the Adobe application.
    2. In Finder, go to Go > Go to Folder.
    3. Type ~/Library/Preferences and press Enter.
    4. Move relevant Adobe application preference files (like com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist) to the Desktop for backup.
    5. Restart the Adobe application.
    6. Attempt printing again.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, ensure your printer driver is up to date by checking the manufacturer's website.
