ICC Profile description is invalid on 2018 Macbook Pro running Catalina

I have Photoshop 21.1.2 that I have intalled/uninstalled/installed again. Every time or type of file I try to open gives me the error ICC Profile description is invalid. I don't know what this means or how to fix it. All the help I've seen in this forum is Elements. And I need help with PS 21.1.2. I have a new 2018 Macbook Pro running Catalina.  Thanks for ANY help. Scottie

This message means what it says. You have a corrupt/defective profile somewhere. It could be either the document profile or the monitor profile. Both of these are used in standard color management of your document.

First check your document profile:

If it's a non-standard profile coming from outside somewhere, try to convert to sRGB or Adobe RGB.

If not that, it can be a defective monitor profile. Yes, that happens on Mac too. If you have a calibrator, rerun it. If not, replace it with whatever generic profile is closest to the characteristics of your display (sRGB, Adobe RGB or DCI-P3). If that fixes it, get a calibrator and fix it properly.

Thanks for all the assistance. The thing that finally ended up working was using the Calibration tool in System Preferences, which I had done before, but evidently had not properly selected the calibrated thing I created.

Hi, and thanks for providing the most detailed instructions I've received. However, with the exception of resetting Photoshop, I really didn't understand any of the others - but not because you didn't explain them well! I'm attaching a screenshot of my error as well as one from the search for "icc" in the ~/Library command.

I recently switched from an old Macbook Air to a new Macbook Pro - I have the same licensed software, which I installed from scratch. This didn't happen before. I'm sure it's something I did wrong, but I'm under a crazy deadline . . .

Hi

its probably worth resetting Photoshop, it can help with many issues

here is some more info on that

You may want to backup your settings beforehand:

I hope this helps

if so, please "like" my reply and if you're OK now, please mark it as "correct", so that others who have similar issues can see the solution

thanks
