Issues with disabling printer color management

Hello All - I've read quite a bit on the forum about color management recently and this has helped a ton. The one remianing question I have is around disabeling color management from the printer side, as it doesn't seem clear to me if it is actually disabled or not on my side. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious as I'm new to the configuration, but thought you all may be able to assist.

As you can see from the collection of screen grabs I get the warning to make sure the printer settings have been turned off/defaulted to allow PS to manage. When I check I don't see anything that may allow this. My assumption would be that the setting would be in the Advanced Settings, but I don't see any. In checking the HP site, I didn't find much. I did read some of the posts by @D Fosse about the print profile, so Im guessing my issue nayt be the same- however I dont seem to have a print profikle that matches the suggested resolution. Any thoughts would be of great help. Thanks!

    A bit of google searching revealed this info at HP for  "How do I turn off printer color management?"

    Welcome to HP support community.

     

    Click the name of your printer, then click 'Options & Supplies.'

    Enter the 'Color Management' menu. Click the 'Advanced' button ('Advanced Color Settings' if you use a Mac),

    Then move your mouse to the top-right corner of the printer dialog box. Disable 'Color Management.

    And one more tag on....I did end up finding this. However I dont know that any of these are what I want?

    Well, I'd say you defintiely don't want printer profile selection = automatic.

    Are those the Windows device settings? Pretty confusing. 

     

    On a Mac, when printing from Photoshop (with Photoshop manages color) or printing from the ACPU, I get this in Print settings on an HP printer.

     

    [you can't print profiling patches from Photoshop BTW, that’s what the ACPU is for)

     

     

     

     

    I would expect there must be a color matching section somewhere in your HP (Windows) software

    As a side note, here are the advanced settings referenced by NB. Doesn't look like there is a color mgt option.

    Bob - I checked the HP site orignally but will do so again. For the lattrer part on creation of a cutom profile, any good links here you recomend on how to do so?

     

    NB - Thanks as well. I'll look up the utility and give it a look.

    According to this page https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/c00294111 HP don't supply any printer profiles, but provides information on how to print a document with color patches that can be measured by a spectrophotometer to create a profile.

    It's also clear that your files should be in RGB, not CMYK.

      Before profiling you need to determine if you have an RGB driver or CMYK driver.  I'd bet RGB though.   Make a new document with 2 patches.  One is 100% black only the other I's 100% of Cyan Mag and Yellow.  Print them.  If the patches appear the same you have an RGB driver

      You'll have noticed that Photshop only offers Printer manages color and Photoshop manages color, neither of those are useful when printing patches to make a profile. You need the ACPU (Adobe Color Printer Utility) which was made by Adobe for this situation. When printing from that normally printer colour management is disabled. It definitely needs to be off. 

      IF you are just printing images, then selecting Photoshop manages colormay turn off printer colour management for you.  [you'll need to select there a profile for the printer/paper - definitely NOT 'CIE RGB'] 

       

      Your screenshot Document preview of 1ssju3b7Le.png shows you selected color, try clicking that advanced button and make sure colour correction/ colour management is off. 

      Photoshops default color settings have no relevance in this process [mentioning as you included a screenshot]

      From what I see in your screen shots and description, it appears that you need a printer profile for the printer / paper combination.  So having Photoshop manage color is fine so long as you have both the document profile (In this case possibly the sRGB profile you have selected).  Then is PS is managing the color you will need the profile for the printer & specific paper you plan to use.   To get that you may wish to go to the HP site and see what they have available to download.  Remember, your results may vary with canned profiles.  I also noticed your using "Plain Paper" which is an uncoated stock that is quite absorbent, so again your results will probably be different.   

       

      If you want to use this printer as a calibrated color managed device I would make a custom profile to use foor that printer / media combination and install it in the computers OS.  After that it will be available for PS to select when it manages color for that printer.
