Pantone CMYK coated vs. Pantone Solid Matte

I am designing a matte airless bottle packaging. So naturally,  I took color references from the Pantone Solid Matte Guide. However, there is a color in the CMYK Coated Guide that I like, that is not in the Matte Guide. My question is, can I still use the colors in the CMYK Guide considering it will be used on matte packaging?

Yes you can use the CMYK color if there is an ICC profile for Matte Packaging   The Coated Guide is printed using GraCol 2013 color space.  Make a CMYK Swatch in 16 bit and convert the mode to CIE Lab.  Then convert to your Standard Matte CMYK profile and the results will match if the printer prints to standards.   There is no standard ICC profile available, make a Spot colot from the 16 bit LAB values of your CMYK color .   The printer will eiether convert the file to their press space or creat a special spot color to match the CIE Lab values.  Check with your printer as to which they prefer.  That will solve the problem.

Will you print spot color or process color?

    Spot color!

Would it be advisable to use Pantone CMYK for spot printing?
