Maybe a stupid question, but what exactly is the difference between Pantone Coated and Pantone Solid Coated?

Process color vs. Spot, or solid color - Pantone.com

Pantone solid coated = Pantone spot coated:

1 mixed ink on coated paper

Pantone solid uncoated = Pantone spot uncoated:

1 mixed ink on uncoated paper

    Pantone process coated

4 process inks on coated paper

    Pantone process uncoated

4 process inks on uncoated paper

    4 process inks = CMYK

El Pantone solid muestra el número del Pantone y el Pantone coated process te da el porcentaje de color CMYK

The only difference is the paper the formula guide is printed on.

Right, that was one of the reasons for the switch to Lab for the solid libraries. The Lab definitions can more accurately display the expected change in appearance when the solid ink is printed on a coated vs. an uncoated sheet.

Also, starting with CS6 and with the CC print applications, there is a clearer distinction between the solid ink (spot color) libraries, and libraries that are CMYK 4-color simulations of the solid ink spot colors.

The CMYK process color simulation libraries are now named with the PANTONE+ Color Bridge prefix:

The solid, metallic, and pastel spot color libraries do not have the PANTONE+ Color Bridge prefix—these colors will normally output to a separate press plate unless you are printing to a composite printer or force a conversion to process color using Ink Manager:
