Question

Windows "Photos" program and colour management

Hi all, does anyone please have a definitive answer on when Windows Photos got colour managed?

I believe Per B. pointed out the update here a while back, but I'm wondering if it may only apply to Photos within certain versions of Windows?

Did it start with a particular version of Photos that we can refer to?

Is the newly minted CM savvy Photos version available to all Win users? It's hard to be clear on issues without this info to hand.

thanks

    Hi Neil,

I discovered that the Photos app was color managed in November last year. The version number at the time was 2021.21090.10008.0. (current version is 2022.30100.19004.0)

I only use Photos for reference when answering questions (it's useless as an image viewer), so I can't say exactly when it became color managed, but most likely in 2021.

I assume that all Windows 10 and 11 users have a color managed version. It gets updated through OS updates, which are mandatory. Don't know if Photos was part of Windows 8, I skipped that version. It was not part of Windows 7, which used the color managed Windows Photo Viewer.

    Hi Per,

I am grateful for that info. thanks, I'm not much of a Win user, but, if I can, I like to help those who are.

I hope that we can presume Win 10 and 11 (if updated) are providing the colour managed version.

    thanks again
