Question

Accessing my website from my laptop instead of desktop while traveling

It's been a long time since I've done this, so I've forgotten how to do it. I primarily access my website from my Mac Studio, but I'll be traveling and need to work from my laptop. I have DW on both computers.

I've entered the FTP settings into DW on my laptop, thinking I could just download it to an external portable drive, but it doesn't let me do that. I know I'm missing something simple but critical, since I've done it before.

First, you need the correct log-in credentials to your hosting server's root directory.

If that has not been established yet, you'll need to go to Site > Manage Sites.

For best results, your local site folder should reside on your computer's primary hard drive.

    C:\MySite\

Click on Servers tab. Connect with the S/FTP method your hosting provider told you to use.  If unsure, contact your host.

    See screenshot.

Once your log-in credentials and Root Directory are entered, click on the TEST button to confirm you're able to reach the server.

If not, click on > More Options.

Once you're fully connected, hit SAVE.

Go to your Files Panel (F8) and click on the Down Arrow to GET files from remote server.

Post back if you need more help.

For backup purposes, you can copy the local site folder from C to your external drive.

But to do anything with it, you'll need to give it read/write access.
