Hello.
For work, I use old Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 , and if I turn on Proton VPN, then the program cannot connect to the Internet.

BUT! it may work on some ip's of Proton VPN (maybe some ports are open there).

What could be the problem?

Hi Bruce,

I totally understand. I don't know of any other suggestions. Perhaps somebody else can help.

Have a happy day.

It's not about Proton or hosting.
Filezilla with the same connect settings - connects ftp without problems

@Bruce26204435495j,

I think this is a simple case of apples to alligators.

  • CS6 is outdated software from 2012. It's discontinued & unsupported.  No new updates have been released since it came out.
  • Meanwhile, FileZilla is a dedicated S/FTP client with all the latest updates and security patches.
  • In all likelihood, Proton isn't compatible with older S/FTP and thus unable to handshake with your version of Dreamweaver.

Since FileZilla works, keep using it alongside DW CS6.

Optionally, you can try DW CC free for 7 days, after which it will revert to a paid annual subscription plan unless you cancel.

Dreamweaver CC 21.3 has received upgrades to the following:

  • OpenSSH: Upgraded version 8.8 enhances security for SFTP connections. If your remote server is configured with old protocols, use this workaround for successful SFTP connections.
  • OpenSSL: Upgraded version 1.1.1n enhances FTPS (explicit and implicit) connections.
  • LibCurl: Upgraded version 7.80 enhances connectivity to FTP, FTP (explicit and implicit), and WebDAV connections.

Hope that helps.

Hi Bruce,
My guess: is hosting companies have measures in place that prevent users from anonymously uploading or downloading images and files onto or from their web server. I could be wrong. I would call the hosting company and ask if they allow users to use Proton VPN to transfer files to and from their servers anonymously.

Try toggling on or off the passive FTP option.

1. Site Setup > select your site > hit the edit pencil in the bottom left corner of the "Manage Sites" window

2. Click "servers"

3. Select your FTP connection

4. hit the edit pencil in the bottom left corner

5. Twirl down the "more options" arrow

6. Toggle the "Use passive FTP" option

Hi Bruce,
Good morning!! What are you doing inside Adobe Dreamweaver CS when you experience this problem? Are you trying to do an FTP transfer, or are you just trying to test the view on your local browser, or are you trying to use the help drop-down menu to connect to the Adobe Website for more help and support?
