AI in Web Coding -- Constructive or Destructive? [Branched to new topic]

What's your view on AI. Maybe open another thread. It's insanely brilliant but hugely destructive at the same time...at least l get to spend more time relaxing on the beach, drinking beer

Tailwind css laid off a huge amount of staff according to reports and over the last few months high traffic web design  tutorial channels on YouTube are saying they are 'done' and not doing coding tutorial like in the past as views have dropped through the floor!, which impacts revenue.

Regarding AI, we’ve been asking ourselves similar questions at Puce & Média. @B i r n o u actually wrote an article around that reflection, looking at AI more as a learning and thinking tool than a replacement: https://www.puce-et-media.com/dessine-moi-une-appli/. Coming from the BBS era, where there were no ready-made answers and learning meant experimenting and asking questions, AI doesn’t feel like a break for him, but rather an amplification of that way of learning https://www.puce-et-media.com/une-certaine-idee-du-developpement/.

That said, every paradigm shift comes with its own form of disruption. It’s probably too big a topic for this thread, but definitely an interesting one to explore further.
Opening a separate discussion around AI could actually be a good idea.

I think the learning and thinking tool approach is  what seasoned developers might see as a useful partner. As for those just learning web dev and hobbyists l think unfortunately they will just rely on what an AI agent provides so long as the code works. It's quick it's easy, who cares about the code generated. I used to spend a long time coding a simple image carousel, a simple javascript app, etc now AI  can do that in seconds and integrate it into your webpage. You used to have to buy into an expensive extention or an expensive low code platform, now AI makes those considerations obsolete......the landscape has rapidly changed, significantly so in the last few months.

Hi @osgood_ , I 100% agree with you, this is probably not the right place to dig into AI properly. It deserves its own thread, otherwise it just blurs technical discussions.

Since @L e n a mentioned a couple of articles I wrote, I’m genuinely curious about how you, and others folks, here react to them. They’re not meant as answers, more as a way to put words on a long-term feeling about where things are heading.

Coming from the BBS days, when there were no ready-made solutions and learning was mostly trial, error and asking questions, AI doesn’t feel like a break to me. It feels more like an acceleration, or a concentration, of something that was already there.

If you think it makes sense, I’m fine opening a separate thread and seeing where that discussion goes. 🙂
