Question

Anyone familiar with StrawPoll or its options?

I have to poll my (low traffic) website users on the best of X options, while keeping the results private for a couple of months.

I was originally going to ask them to simply email their answers in, when I randomly found StrawPoll. It offers to keep results private (if you create a free account) but still gives away the number of total votes at the bottom.

Big shot in the dark here, but does anyone know if there's a way to hide this info? I figured if they wanted us to pay for this feature, it would be listed under one of the 3 pricing plans. But it's not. Not even for the top business plan (that removes their branding and cures your cancer) which seems odd.

(Since I'm more web design than web dev, a script that does this locally would have to be pretty dumbed down for me to make it work.)

The total votes have to be injected into the page in a container one would have thought, so if you have access to the code you can probably locate the votes container and remove it from the page by using a bit of custom javascript to target the container and remove it from the dom.

Do they offer a free trial or some example code where you could carry out some testing locally before purchasing?

It couldn't be done, but the developer liked the feature suggestion so much he literally implemented it overnight. How awesome is that? Now everyone can hide the vote count in those embeds.

I'm glad you found what you were looking for.

Just one more thing to consider...  For privacy reasons, you should know that free widgets can be tracking your user's data. Disclosure of trackers in your site's Privacy Policy Statement is legally required in most regions.  That can be doubly difficult when you don't know what data they track or how that data is used.

Did you ask StrawPoll?

https://strawpoll.com/contact/

Seems they would know whether you could hide that info or not.

Not only did I ask, but the developer actually implemented the toggle (for everyone to use) overnight. What more could I ask for?
