Area maps interfere with editing.

I have created area maps that enable a user to move to next or previous photo by clicking on map. It works fine, however Dreamweaver insert a transparent copy of the area over the image in the output in split view. This makes it difficult to edit in the Design window. Is there a way to hide the maps while editing?
